Dietitian

7 May 2022

Dietitians can give you general advice about healthy eating or help you manage dietary conditions. It is a good idea to choose an accredited dietitian who can help you. You might be able to get rebates or other help with the costs of appointments.

A dietitian is a university-trained health professional who can give you and your child expert nutrition and dietary advice. Dietitians work in many areas, including hospitals, community health services, and private practice. They help children to eat well so that they can grow up healthy.

If you think your child might benefit from seeing a dietitian, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure to choose an accredited dietitian. You can ask the dietitian directly if they are accredited, or check on the Dietitians Association of Australia website. Second, keep in mind that dietitians are sometimes called nutritionists, depending on their area of work. All accredited dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are accredited dietitians.

Seeing a dietitian can help your child develop healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

A dietitian can give you and your child general advice about healthy eating and help you figure out what to cook for your family. Dietitians can also give you tips and recipes. They might also be able to help you and your child manage conditions like food allergies, type-1 diabetes, type-2 diabetes, obesity, malnutrition, or gastrointestinal conditions. Dietitians work with other health care professionals to provide a holistic approach to patient care. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's health, dietitians are a good resource. You don't need a doctor's referral to see one--you can find them on the DAA website.

Before going to a dietitian, it is important to talk with your GP. You should ask your GP about why you need to see a dietitian and whether there is anything you can do while waiting for the appointment. You should also ask your GP about any medical results or information that might be useful for the dietitian. The cost of the appointment with the dietitian is an important thing to consider. Make sure you find out how much it will cost and whether you can get money back from Medicare or private health insurance. Only accredited practising dietitians are recognised by Medicare and most private health funds. Be sure to ask the clinic where you will go to see the dietitian any questions you have before the appointment.
