Riddle time. Ask your child to guess what picture or object you’re talking about. Give your child a clue, e.g. “It is a building. Some people live in these. They are quite different from a house. They are quite tall.”
Make it easier: Give very easy clues to begin with. Encourage your child to ask questions.
Make it harder: Take turns with your child to give clues. Use more complicated vocabulary such as transport or vehicle. Be more vague in your clues, e.g. “It is yellow”. Have a strict rule of no pointing. Don’t ever say what the picture or object it called.
