Helping to develop your child’s listening and attention #3

11 August 2021

Listening Practice:

  • Praise your child for showing good listening skills (good sitting, good looking, and good thinking).
  • Practise listening for ‘who’ words within a story (e.g. moo every time you hear the character ‘cow’ in the story).
  • Play memory games with words (e.g. I went to the supermarket and I bought a strawberry… each child repeats what the last person said and adds an item).
    • Make it easier: have a range of objects or pictures in a basket for the child to pull out and hold.
    • Make it harder: tell the child they have to think of something with the same sound as their name, e.g. Jude went shopping and bought some juice, Billy went shopping and bought some butter.
